A pet owner portal, and a card that works without one

Most owners will not install anything

Asking a pet owner to download an app, create an account and remember a password is asking for a conversion rate close to zero. So the primary route is a printed card with a QR code: the owner points a camera at it and the animal’s record opens. Nothing to install, nothing to remember, and it works on any phone in the room.

The card is also the thing that survives. Phones change and numbers change; a card in a wallet or taped inside a carrier is still there when the animal turns up at an emergency clinic at nine on a Sunday.

For owners who do want a login

A portal account shows visits, vaccination status, prescriptions and lab reports for that owner’s animals and nothing else — the same database isolation that separates clinics separates clients. Portal logins are deliberately never counted against a clinic’s staff seats, so giving them out costs a practice nothing.

Why this is worth doing at all

It removes phone calls in both directions, which is the immediate benefit. The longer one is that a complete, produceable vaccination history is what an owner needs when they travel, move abroad, sell an animal or take it to a second opinion — and the clinic that holds it is the clinic they come back to.
