Why append-only matters more than it sounds
Most systems let a record be edited or deleted. That feels convenient until the day it matters — a disputed bill, a questioned treatment, an owner who insists the animal was vaccinated last year. A file that can be silently rewritten is not evidence of anything.
In VetCentra a medical record cannot be deleted. The database refuses it. A mistake is voided and amended: the correction sits next to the original, both stay readable, and the record shows who changed what and when. Nobody has to remember to be careful.
The form belongs to the practice, not to us
A consultation form written for a small animal clinic in another country asks for things a mixed practice in Punjab never records, and misses things it needs every day. Every field here is switched on, made required, or hidden by the clinic — from the "Fields" button on the form itself, with no support ticket and no wait.
The rules are enforced on the server as well as in the browser, so a tab left open before a setting changed cannot write a field its user can no longer see. A few fields are locked because something else depends on them: a client with no WhatsApp number cannot be contacted, and a pet with no owner has nobody to bill.
Dictation, but only where it is safe
The long clinical fields — complaint, diagnosis, treatment, notes — can be dictated. Names, phone numbers, CNICs, quantities, prices and doses cannot, and that is deliberate. A misheard digit in a WhatsApp number splits an owner’s history in two. A misheard dose is worse. Typing is faster for those anyway.

Can a record be deleted if we make a mistake?
No, and that is intentional. Corrections void and amend: the original stays readable alongside the correction, with a note of who changed it and when. This is what makes the file usable if it is ever questioned.
Does it support SOAP notes?
Yes. Because the form is defined by the clinic, a practice that works in SOAP can set up subjective, objective, assessment and plan fields, and a practice that does not can leave them off.
